Apparently there is a millionaire that wants to disappear.  Who knew?  ABC News reports that Guma Aguiar may have staged his own disappearance.  How do they know?  Experts analyzed the GPS data from his boat after it washed to shore.  It is a very interesting read.  The experts determined, based upon a “pattern in the vessel’s track, speed, longitude and latitude to indicate that it may have stopped briefly for enough time for Mr. Aguiar to have transferred to another vessel.”  I suppose when there is $100 million at stake, it might be worth investigating.

I am now imagining the types of patterns that would emerge when applying this type of expertise to marketing and business intelligence data.  The possibilities are limitless.  So the question is: Are we experts enough at what we do to recognize and use the patterns and relationships in our data for making $100 million decisions?
